Today, your regular female instructor is out sick, the instructor said. I'll be filling in for her and lead this class. Pupccubus felt a little nervous, not sure what to expect from this new instructor.
The class begins with some warm-up exercises, but soon the instructor introduces a new pose that you haven't seen before. It's called the Puppy Push-Up, and he demonstrates it for the class. You watch as he lowers himself to the ground, his strong arms holding him steady as he shifts his weight forward and back.
As she got into the pose herself, she felt the stretch in her arms and chest, but she also felt a strange sense of submission. The instructor moves around the room, adjusting the students' poses, and when he comes to her, he places his hand on her back in a way that feels comforting and commanding at the same time.
Next, he introduces the Downward-Facing Dog pose, but with a twist. He instructs the class to imagine they are a pack of playful puppies, and encourages them to bark and wag their imaginary tails. Pupccubus can't help but giggle at the silliness of it all, but she also felt a sense of freedom in letting go and embracing her playful side.
As the class progresses, the poses become more intimate. The instructor guides the class through a partner pose where one person plays the puppy and the other person is the master, gently pulling on a leash to encourage the puppy to stretch deeper into the pose. She finds herself paired with the instructor, and as he pulls on her leash, she feels a sense of surrender and trust.
The class ended with a final relaxation pose, but even as she laid there, feeling calm and centered, she can't help but wonder what it would be like to explore this new side of yoga further, perhaps even with the handsome male instructor as her guide.
