Story time: Its 2008. I hear a scream coming from the receiving end of the phone, “Kim, the New Kids on the Block are going on a reunion tour. Merissa and Mary are down to get get tickets. You in?” A smile comes across my face. See I’m more of a Backstreet Boys fan. I was just a super fan at age 4 because my sister and my oldest cousins wouldn’t play anything else. Besides the 50s and 60s, I didn’t know there was any other music besides the new kids. “Nah, y’all go ahead,” I replied. 2009, my sister shows at my door. “Go pack! We are headed to Charleston to pick up Merissa and Mary. We are all going to Cleveland.” I love Cleveland! “Why are we going to Cleveland?” It’s not like my sister to just leave her kids and take a trip without them. And that far away? “We are going to The New Kids on the Block show day after the day after tomorrow.” Well at least they chose Cleveland. The show was ok. Very loud! Loyal fans, still. Such a blast watching my sisters’ and two cousins’ childhood dreams come true. We go to this club and we are taking shots and dancing and having a good time.....my sister runs over to me, “Kim, look who’s standing right behind you” my sister exclaims! I turn around to see the motherfucking Nature Boy, Ric Flair. In my intoxicated stupor, I immediately have to do it. “Whoooooo, someone get Mr. Ric a shot of Patron on me.” 3 hours later.....all 4 of us and that Ric was feeling pretty good. Too good. Laughing and talking and having fun. Then something serious happened (I can’t say what because I don’t remember) but I lost the bet. “What bet?” I asked my sister on the way to the tattoo parlor the next evening. I don’t remember no damn bet.” Y’all, I really didn’t and she couldn’t tell me either. If it wasn’t for our signed napkin contract (with 3 signatures), I wouldn’t have believed her. So we get there and Ric Flair is there. I hear my sister say “omg I didn’t believe for a minute he would show.” Y’all, me and Ric Flair have matching New Kids on the Block tattoos from a bet we lost with my sister while intoxicated in Cleveland after a NKOTB Reunion show! My life has been blessed with many memories such as this one. I can’t wait to share them with you all here!
