Eliminating backgrounds and colors is a tool used in photography to help the viewer really focus in on the intended subject. We use the same tool in wine tastings. Wrapping the bottle in a brown paper bag and tasting out of a dark glass really allows you to evaluate the bouquet and the flavors of a wine without any preconceived opinions that you will form as you see details on a label and the color in your glass. Sometimes you have to remove it all to really assess how great it is. Think of it as a blindfold for your senses.🍷
